How I can help

Real change, at your own pace

Hypnotherapy is a relaxed, natural state of focused attention, a little like daydreaming, where unhelpful patterns can be gently updated. These are the areas I work with most.

Fear of water & learning to swim

As a qualified hypnotherapist, an experienced swimming teacher and a teacher of over 20 years, I offer something genuinely rare: help for the mind and the water, together. We calm the fear first, then build real confidence in the water.

Stop smoking

Leave cigarettes behind without feeling like you're losing a friend. We work on the habit, the triggers and the identity, so quitting feels like relief rather than sacrifice.

Overeating & food habits

When eating stops being about hunger, willpower alone rarely helps. Hypnotherapy works with the part of you that reaches for food, so a calmer relationship with eating can take root.

What to expect

A simple, unhurried process

A free, friendly chat

We start with a no-obligation conversation, by phone or Zoom, about what you'd like to change. You ask anything you like and I explain how I'd approach it. No pressure either way.

Sessions tailored to you

Each session is built around you, not a script. You stay comfortable, aware and in control throughout. Most people describe it as deeply relaxing, like the moments just before sleep.

Change that lasts

We work until the change feels like yours, often in just a handful of sessions. You'll also leave with simple techniques you can use on your own, for life.

About

Hello, I'm Elizabeth

I'm a qualified hypnotherapist based in Hermitage, Berkshire. I hold a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy from the Royal Berkshire College of Clinical Hypnosis, and my training also covers techniques from psychotherapy, NLP and Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT).

Before hypnotherapy, I spent over 20 years as a secondary school teacher, and I hold a BEd (Hons) degree in teaching. Two decades in the classroom taught me how to put people at ease, explain things clearly, and help someone believe in themselves when they've stopped believing they can change. I've seen up close what anxiety, low confidence and unhelpful habits do to people of every age, and I've spent my whole career helping people past them.

I'm also a swimming teacher, and much of my work began at the poolside: years spent helping nervous adults and children discover that fear isn't permanent. That experience shapes everything I do. I know what it looks like when someone finds their confidence, and I know it's always closer than it feels.

Sessions with me are warm, practical and free of jargon. You'll never be judged, rushed or asked to do anything that doesn't feel right for you.

Common questions

It's natural to be curious

What does hypnotherapy actually feel like?
Most people describe it as deeply relaxing, a bit like the drifting, comfortable feeling just before you fall asleep, while still being aware of everything around you. There's nothing strange or dramatic about it.
Will I be in control?
Completely. Hypnosis is not mind control. You can't be made to do or say anything against your will, you remain aware throughout, and you can open your eyes and stop at any time.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on you and what we're working on. Some changes, like stopping smoking, are often addressed in very few sessions; others benefit from a little more time. We'll discuss what's realistic in your free consultation. I'll never suggest more sessions than you need.
Does hypnotherapy work over Zoom?
Yes, very well. All you need is a quiet, comfortable spot and a stable connection. Many clients find it even easier to relax in their own home.
Do you work with teenagers?
Yes. I spent over 20 years as a secondary school teacher, so helping young people feel at ease is second nature to me. Exam nerves, confidence and anxiety respond especially well to hypnotherapy. For anyone under 18, a parent or guardian is involved from the first call.
I've never learned to swim. Is it too late?
It's never too late. I've helped adults of all ages who believed the water simply wasn't for them. We calm the fear first, so that learning becomes possible, and even enjoyable.
